Copyright infringements will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. More on image rightsIf you do a portrait or modeling shoot with me, who owns the images? Legally speaking, I own the copyright to the images and you own the rights to your likeness. So, I am not allowed to use the photos without restriction unless you give me consent. Likewise, unless you obtain my permission, you are not allowed to use the photos for any commercial purpose. If I am shooting you on a TFCD basis, I require that you sign a model release. Essentially this is a contract stating that I own all rights to the images, and would not require your permission at a later date should I choose to publish or sell the images. This is especially necessary if your face is recognizable in the images, as publishers have various legal obligations to ensure that there is traceability of consent. This saves me a huge bunch of trouble later on if I want to use the images commercially. A good resource explaining the model release is this link: Dan Heller's Guide to Model Releases and Image RightsIf you pay me for a portrait or modeling shoot, I will ask that you sign a model release, but you are not required you to do so.
